More Renovation Progress!
Thanks for stopping by again! It’s been another busy week around The Barn at Cranberry Creek. Our carpenter and his crew made great progress on several projects. It’s so exciting to come home every evening and see what they’ve accomplished!
Here’s a glimpse of what’s happening right now:
The Loft
Eeek! The main loft staircase and railings are almost complete, and it looks AMAZING! The staircase is nice and wide with plenty of room for people to pass while walking up or down. All that’s left to do is add the railing along the Bridal Room wall and that set of stairs will be finished. We think it’s going to be a favorite spot for bridal photos. The loft itself is in great shape after 70 years! Soon we will pressure wash the original tongue-and-groove wood floors and apply a nice finish. We can’t wait to see how they turn out! Then once electrical work begins, we’ll install the new lighting—which includes a couple of beautiful chandeliers, barn light fixtures and Edison rope lights!
The Dairy Barn
Lot’s of work is happening right now in the office. On the outside, windows have been trimmed out and board-and-batten siding has been added to the gable ends! On the inside, the walls have been framed up to the vaulted ceiling, new windows were put in, new ceiling beams have been installed, and furring strips for shiplap (whoo hoo!) have been attached to the walls. The doorway to the milking parlor has been framed and the door will be installed soon. Speaking of doors, the barn doors on the back of the milk barn were hung this week! We could not be happier with the way they turned out and can’t wait to see the remaining doors go up next week.
Demo and Clean Up
Admittedly, this is my least favorite part of the reno process. We spend Saturdays working on various projects. The past few weeks have been all about demo and clean up. It’s amazing how much “stuff” has accumulated around the farm over the years. Some things we’re finding new homes for, other things just need to be relocated to the landfill. Lot’s of that happened today. Not much fun, but greatly rewarding nonetheless. For instance, today we moved 20+ wooden potato crates out of the lower level of the hay barn. Some were broken and unusable, but over half were salvageable and will soon become part of a wedding vignette in the hay barn. You just never know what treasures you’ll find around the farm!
Next week, we should see the rest of the barn doors hung and the main staircase fully completed. There’s also some electrical work to be done in the office. I guess you could say that we should be wrapping up Phase 1 of renovations very shortly. Phase 2 renovations should begin mid-November and will bring about the largest changes around the farm thus far. We hope you will continue to follow along with the process!
Check back next week for another post. Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Instagram for even more news, photos, renovation updates, and that BIG announcement we told you about in last week’s blog post! If you’re searching for a barn wedding venue for your special day, you definitely want to be one of the first to know!
See you next time!
